People who regularly eat canned fruits and vegetables may follow a more healthy diet than those who eat fresh, but very rarely. Researchers in California analysed the eating habits of 42,000 Americans, among them children, from 2001 to 2010.
For the research, the people were divided into groups depending on what is consumed. The one consumed fresh fruits and vegetables, other canned products, from fruits until and seafood, and the last was ruled out of the fruit and vegetables on the menu.
What the research show?
Some of the results of the research showed that those adults ate canned fruits and vegetables had an average score of quality nutrition, 49% on a scale from 0 to 100.
Overall, people who received a canned food in the day, tended to consume larger quantities of certain nutrients, as well as more calories, sugar and fat, according to the study, which was published online in the journal of Ακαδημιακής Nutrition and Dietetics
"With the consumption of fruit and vegetable, one may remove it from your daily diet, products low nutritional value." pointed out professor Marjorie Freedman, of the University of San Jose State in California.
"Therefore, it is logical that those who consume canned fruits and vegetables – probably in combination with other types of fruit and vegetables – have a higher intake of certain nutrients and make a higher-quality diet", added the same to the "Reuters Health.
The study showed that children and the adults who ate canned vegetables and fruits were balanced levels of pressure and sugar in their diet.
The study does not aim to prove that canned fruits and vegetables can be healthier than fresh, but to determine if you may prefer someone who doesn't eat any of the above, or if it is possible to join -no worries - an already balanced diet.
